Show us your favorite childhood toy.
I have always loved music. I used to take this badboy around with me *everywhere*. When I could only bring one toy to my grandparents house - this was it. When I could bring in a toy to school - this was it.
I would cart it around and listen to whatever tape I could get my grubby little mitts on. And I would play and play and play it ... until the tracks got all warbly.
Show us something handmade that you love.
One of the things I love most about this sculpture is its handmade qualities:
This piece was done by a local Seattle artist by the name of Sajy. It is done in Sculpey Modeling Clay.
You can tell it is handmade when you look really close. Sajy did not smooth out any of the details, so there are portions of fingerprints all over the sculpture. It makes it almost certifiably unique and personal (and one of the little details that made me fall in love with it when I first saw it). There are also little sparkle flecks that the camera didnt quite pick up right. You just dont see that done too often (or too well).
There is one other detail that makes it *very* personal - the sculpture is missing one horn from above its left eye. That is a result of my move to Eastlake. Even though I packed it extremely carefully, the horn tip got caught on the tissue and broke off.
Sadly though, I believe that Sajy is no longer sculpting. The last I heard, was that something in the process of making these beautiful pieces was causing him to become sick. And his website is no longer available.
Show us a photo of somewhere you want to go.
For Europe:
Sagrada Familia by Antonio Gaudi is an engineering marvel - name another architect who thinks in hyperbolic surfaces.
Audio: Share your life anthem.
There are many times when life just kicks you in the gnards. The natural response for anyone is to go "Ooof!" and crumble to the ground. Your brain moans, hopes that was the end of it, and you look up. The bullying happens when circumstance calls in its friends. You are kicked in the ribs. Repeatedly. You take a blow, square in the mouth. Another "Oof!" with spittle.
You can curl up and take your beating. Passively, with each grunt. Your resolve huddles inside. You pull farther and farther away from the situation. Cope with the beating. Wonder why. And eventually, lose yourself to the situation.
Or you can raise your head, blood dripping from your gums. And smile - a sincere crimson, toothy grin. Look life right in the eyes, and stand. Rise Against.
And I will continue to choose it.
Hands armed with broken bottles,
Standing no chance to win but,
We're not running, we're not running.
Will you join me, and rewrite this world - with fierce spirit and friendly smiles?
Show us your biggest dream.
First, the bonus. My biggest silly selfish dream:
I have always wanted to date a cute female musician. In my dream she would write a song about me. It doesnt even have to become popular ... it just has to exist. Maybe I could be mentioned in the insert.
I would cherish the song for the rest of my life.
Double super bonus if she has a killer voice ...
(Yes, a moment in Hi Fidelity should seem particularly familiar here :))
And as for my Biggest Dream:
Some people want to achieve fame and fortune. Some people want to change the world through power, progress, or a host of other "Large Scale Things." You know this drives most people to do the things they do.
I just want to be the Best Me that I can be.
So that I can change the world one person at a time. Its a ripple effect. Six degrees of seperation. Cause if I am the best me that I can be, I will go around spreading that to all the people I meet.
I want to make the world a better place, one person at a time. Through smiles and laughter and general lightheartedness. Through inspiration. Through loyalty. Through compassion. Old friends. New Friends. Soon to be friends. General Acquaintances.
I aspire to leave every situation in a slightly better way than I found it. And hope that it spreads like the best epidemic the world has ever seen.
Show us a letter.
Me! I am a letter. (my blog even says so)
I actually got into the habit of introducing myself as "Jay ... ... like the letter." I started doing this as a response to noticing that a lot of people would think that my name was Jake.
And because I instinctively talk with my hands, I will often write out the letter J in air with my finger as I am introducing myself. For some reason unknown to me, I do this in cursive. Its odd - I *never* write in cursive anymore, except in the air.
What is really cool, is that in ASL, the letter J is signed essentially like I write my Js in air. Except you are supposed to use your pinky finger, and I use my index finger. (I picked up some sign language when I befriended "Deaf Guy Nick").
Show us what you're thankful for.
There a countless things for me to be thankful for. Every. Damn. Day.
But here is the first one that popped into my head. As it does every morning. Cause thats just how I am.
If you had the ability to teleport, where would you go right now?
Silly question.
Anyone who has been reading my Vox over the last 3 months knows exactly where I want to be. They might even have a small clue as to how much I want to be there.
But ... its just not that simple.
