After work today, I popped by Daniel Smith's Art Supply.
I spent some time lingering and planning future supply lists. Well, that and drooling over this easel that has had my eye for over a year. (Someone once told me they would help me build it for free ... but I guess I meet a lot of really nice but flakey people).
Anyway, I picked up the following:
- Two drawing pads
- One Contained Sharpener
- One 16x24 Ampersand Hardboad (1" thick)
- 3 Epure Maped Erasers.
I am super excited about these erasers, actually. When I saw them, a burst of excitement caused my hands to snatch them up and revel in their genius. I just *had* to have them - brilliant idea!
They are shaped perfectly for my needs. No longer will I have to mold a kneadable, or erase-shape a regular whitey. Check our their wonderfulness, and see what Im talking about:
This just put art on my mind, so I spent a little bit of time pulling some old sketches and snapping some pics. Uploaded to Flickr, and posting them here.
These are all character sketches from an animated short I was going to co-create with someone. We had ideas, a general story, a willing story expert to coach us along ... and the technical knowhow to produce it in all stages of the pipeline. Life and calamity got in the way though.
All thats left is a memory, some ideas and the following pics of the sketches I have:
Generic Villagers.
Tomo (Main Character)
Kazuo (Main Support Character).
As I was saying ... I wanted to get back to drawing a bit.
So last week I did some sketches in between other things I was getting done. Mostly trying to get warmed up a bit. In order to do so, I made practice be on an unofficial eggtimer. Basically setting a limit of about 15 minutes before I sat down and did anything.

I got off work early today due to Halloween - if we dont leave at 3pm, all of the kids invading campus makes for obnoxious traffic. Some years it takes over 45 minutes to get off campus during Halloween.
I was going to save tonight for a friend - I am supposed to help her out. But she had to work, so I was a bit productive. Then I just felt like sketching. Havent done that since I got crazy-busy at work. Results:
As the description implies - I really need to learn how to take photos of artwork properly. Cause when I snap a shot, it is too yellow skewed. So when I auto-level it in Photoshop, it gets way too contrasty (but unyellows it). I cant level the img myself, that is way too meddly for me. I just want a quick edit better pic of whatever Im sketching.
Anywho. I love hair. I love lips. I love women. But they are all a bit tough to sketch - especially hair. And I even did this hair as mostly an abstraction. Whatever tho - its all about art therapy anyway. Ive got a real job.
