Today is my One Year Voxiversary!
Yes, that means you have had to deal with yours truly for a whole year. Postin and ramblin away at this and that. Big things. Small things. Personal things. Open things. Just whatever comes to my mind.
I have defintely enjoyed the switch over to Vox. One of the best things about it is definitely the people. From the very start, Vox has felt like more of an open minded community, where people genuinely want to get to know new people. I definitely appreciate that. And its probably why I stay.
A lot has gone on in the last year. Lets look at some highlights and little known facts to celebrate:
First, the connectedness ...
Total number of posts in last year: 435
Average number of hits per month: 3000
Average number of unique visitors per month: 1800
Most number of hits in one day: 198
Approximate states that have viewed my blog: 30
Approximate countries that have viewed my blog: 50
Yes, I find stat tracking to be utterly fascinating. I do nothing more than just glimpse at some numbers and such. Its fun. I have always been into odd statistics (but not the actual science of Statistics. icko!)
Second, the neighbors...
The first person I did not know who became my mutual neighbor: Jen
The first person I did not know, who became my mutual neighbor, and still comments a lot: Narami
The first person I did not know, who meant a lot to me (and I miss dearly): Kiss Me Cate (my e-sis)
The first person I did not know, and developed an e-crush on: (pfft! ya right)
I could talk about my neighbors all night. All of you should know why I like you. And if not, well jeez ... just ask. Im not afraid to celebrate you! You make it all worth it.
Third, the favorites ...

And there are countless more favorites. I just cant think of enough categories. And cause ... well Im really bad doing the whole favorite thing. Not my schtick.
Although ... there is a whole section of favorites that I am leaving off completely. Mostly because I post about that all the time. You know *exactly* what I am talking about.
I could go on to cover some other stuff. Like bad stuff. Sad stuff. Effed up stuff. Tiring stuff. But lets not, okay? There is more than enough happy to go around right now, this past year. Lets keep it positive.
And on that I bid you a huge
Thanks!
To Vox. To Neighbors. To Silent Readers. To Everyone!
May the next 365 bring more living and sharing. And goodness. And silliness. And just plain fun.
One of my deepest small pleasures in life are Warning Labels.
I love to read all the ridiculous things they say. And some of the pictures amuse me to no end. I really wish I could just take pictures of them all. Because seriously ... they make me laugh like no other.
In my mind, I read them out loud with a very DOOMsdayish voice. Like IMPENDING DOOM! Cause there really isnt any other way to read em.
Two old ones come to mind, image-wise.
I knew someone who bought a curling iron. On the instructions, it had an image of someone poking themselves in the eye with a hot curling iron. Yes. poking. in the eye! Who knew that this was not *proper* use of a hot piece of metal? Thanks Guys!
On the green plastic bag for the original XBox. There was a picture of a baby with the bag over its head. This had the slashed-circle graphic (aka NO!) around it. Yes. No Babies with dey Heads Inna BAG!!! (Again, thanks guys.)
I was reminded of this today when I saw the warning label of a blowdryer. It says in all caps:
" 'UNPLUG IT!' DO NOT REMOVE THIS TAG! WARN CHILDREN OF THE RISK OF DEATH BY ELECTRIC SHOCK!"
In my mind, I pictured myself running around on a playground, franctically screaming to all the children, "ELECTRIC SHOCK! Warning! Its a RISK!!!! OF DEATH!"
And then I looked at the image. A hairdryer, plugged in, and floating above a tub of water. A big red slash through both. Apparently, levitating hairdryers and bathtubs should be nowhere near each other. Especially if said levitating hairdryer has squiqqly lines around it.
Yes. I am amused.
What shows are you looking forward to in the new fall TV season?
In order, most to least, of "OMG!ness"
1)
This show makes me want to just cream my pants and die. Seriously - I cant handle how awesome this show is on every single level. It makes me freak out at the TV like nobody's business.
I have watched each of the first 3 seasons 2-3 times already. And I think I need a refresher on the third season before it starts up again. I cannot be out of the loop right now.
I must say, above all else - I really do hope that sneaksy bitch dies. I hate her so much. She tricked me like 3 times, and Im just not standing for it anymore. You cant play with my heartstrings - wench.
2)
I just wanna see this in real time. Man, its gonna be awesome!
If they can bring back Debbie Allen, I will be so happy. I seriously <3 that woman. Always have, always will. She makes me feel all sorts of happy, fiesty, and soulful.
3)
I still have some catching up to do, but I am sure I will get there.
This show is utterly fascinating. I cannot get enough of everything that it brings to the screen. And honestly, I am so enamored with Christian's character I cannot even stand it.
4)
I am hoping that the writers can recover from the lackluster finale. And also that they can bring back some of the feeling from the earlier episodes, before it got a little too complicated in *every* episode.
Towards the end, it really seemed like they were having trouble concentrating, and tried to jam too much into each episode. I want to see more focus on a particular character in each epsiode, with only light tendrils to the other stories. This is a fairly proven story tactic for TV.
I would also like to see Peter stop being such a whiner. Waaah - I have the ultimate trump power and I am a puss.
Laughter is one of my favorite noises in the entirety of existence.
Nothing can make my day like hearing someone laugh. The only thing better than laughs is making people laugh because of something you said or did. I will do just about anything to make someone laugh - its like my own little drug that I just cannot ever get a fix for.
This is probably one of the main reasons why my primary fodder for stories is my own ridiculous antics and misfortunes. For whatever reason, it seems to work well to get me laughs from people I know. One of my friends told me its because people can somehow empathize with it, and understand where Im coming from - even if they find the situation hard to believe. I think I can understand that.
One would think, that I should look into becoming a comedian or something. And I have had quite a few people tell me that I should do some form of entertainment (radio show, reality show, comedy tour, etc)
But Im not sure it would make me truly happy. That I would be good at it, if it were my job. Or that I have the guts to try it for real. Who knows.
These are pics of my absolute favorite pair of jeans ever:
Mine are actually mislabeled too - they are tagged as Hunter but are really Matt. Above are not pics of me (as if the flip flops and real butt arent clue enough) just some model on the real site. The back tag and coloring verifies that my jeans actually are of Matt style.
Love these jeans. Worth every bit of the $75 I paid for them. And then some. I have tried on lots of $200 jeans that just cannot touch these for comfort, fabric texture, style, and fit for my body.
The only thing - these are from Turkey, which means they tend to be measured/fit more like European jeans than most you can buy here in the US. Which means a little more slim fit. Also, this means that you definitely have to try on *every* single pair of jeans before you buy because the craftmanship does not follow fixed inches. I can vary up to 2 inches in the waist from one jean to another in the same style!
If I remember correctly (I lost the list) ... my New Years Resolutions for last year were:
- Do my best to get N a full-time position (or the opportunity to do so)
- Go on vacation somewhere
- Learn how to dance well enough to not be against spontaneous dance outings
- Overcome fear of the cold call
- Exercise more regularly and trim some fat.
- Rebuild a relationship with my Mom
- Rebuild a relationship with some exes
Bolded are the ones that either happened, or I made substantial progress.
Overall, here is a listing of accomplishments in 2006, NYE resolutions or not:
- Learned, to some level of competency, how to social dance. This included Salsa, West Coast Swing, Nightclub 2 Step, Swing, Cha-Cha, Waltz, Hustle, Merengue, Rhumba, Argentine Tango (in order of comfort level, with it really dropping off after Swing).
- Dated the most amount of women in one year, ever for me (culmulatively and simultaneously).
- Through furnishings and whatnots - seriously progressed towards making my place a comfortable spot for people to be
- Decorated more than I have ever done so in the past
- Met hundreds of new people (and hung out with them). Dozens of which turned into moderate-level friends
- Shipped my first large-scale project
- Reclaimed a bunch of lost self-confidence
- Bought turntables, and am exploring the art of turntablism
- Learned how to be alone more effectively
- Lived more in the moment than in past years
- Rekindled a romance with music
- Built some relationship with my mom and half-brother
- Furthered my ability to just Let Go
I have bolded the ones I think are especially important. And I am sure that I am forgetting many things.
