Horntables
Also, piece of evidence #2. Kid Koala. Nobody beats his horn work in my opinion. Take a listen and a look:
Pay special attention to his horn "solo" at 2:42 (-1:24). You should notice that he actually has turned *off* the turntable, and is regualting the pitch, timbre and sound by using his hand to determine the speed of the turntable. Forwards and backwards.
Yes. Yes. Yes, he is.
EDIT:
And because Kid Koala does some really crazy experimental things with older music (I love his gutsiness and individuality on this subject) ... also check out his rendition of Moon River:
Notice at the instrumental breakdown (roughly -3:14), that he does something with the turntables to make a birdlike sound. And then he goes into some serious needle dropping to pick out a tune to play over the song.
Needle Dropping - aka - that man is finding the *exact* groove on a record (out of possibly hundreds), that contains a note that he wants to play. And then doing it again for the next note. In real time.
Skill, and musicianship right there.

Youre welcome ;)
By the way, Fender Bender is probably my favorite Kid Koala song of All Time. Although Basin Street Blues is also really nice.
Stunning stuff dude. Properly stunning stuff. Mind you, I am going to give a counter point to this now.......
I totally agree with you on the musicianship, the skill and the instrumentation argument, of that there is no question. He is an exceptionally talented man and there are a few more out there like him that dont get the credit they deserve. What I WILL say is that although I admire this and him immensly and think that he should be lauded as a musician in his own right, its not the kind of thing I would willingly listen to over a long period of time. The Moon River rendition IS beautiful, properly beautiful and he makes some gorgeous sounds and soundscapes in it, but the first one I found hard work. Ok, its almost free form jazz in its conception, but that didn't make it any easier to listen to. HUGELY impressive and I am complete awe of the guy, but I am not sure I would want to go out and buy his stuff if it was all like the first one.
Just my thoughts on it though. Still amazing stuff and Moon River was exceptional.....
But for me, if I were to listen to a DJ on a regular basis, I would personally rather listen to something like DJ Shadow, who I regard as a genius (although his latest album, going back to his hip hop roots is a bit of a mess). Endtroducing is on constant reply on my MP3 player............
Great heads up on this guy though Jay. Like him a lot!
